Well, I’m officially unemployed from my old job Get Glossy and it is time for a little debrief for you guys. I just thought I would share this post to tell you guys what really happened and what I learned and observed over my time here.

Now I’m not going to give you all the details or even peoples real names because this is not to bad mouth the company or make people avoid them but just wanted to get everything out there.

I enjoyed my time at Get Glossy and I learned a lot from the company both good and bad. I learned how things are run in the office and also what steps you need to take to introduce new processes. I got to develop my skills and learn new ones as well both in Web Development and Design. However, as time went on I found things to be hitting a low.

People in the office were getting lazy and projects started to stop flowing in. Even my ideas and requests where being shot down. As more and more of my ideas which were mainly to bring more money by building websites and making more videos and editing them, I found myself wondering if it was time to look elsewhere. I also found it hard at Get Glossy to develop my skills by taking classes and even trying to go on holiday as I was the only Developer that worked there. Because of this whenever I was away there was no IT support or any projects being done.

There was also a lack of improvement due to the fact it might inconvenience the office for a day or two. When, for example, the phones in the new office was needed to be installed there was a requirement that everything be wireless but the issue with that is it makes it more expensive and also slows down the wireless connection. This didn’t change the fact however that they also wanted to keep costs down and where willing to sacrifice quality for it. When it came down to the reason why I decided to leave it actually took a while for it to happen.

I had been battling with the decision for about 3 to 4 months but in the end, I decided to then just apply for jobs and see what happens. Not more than 3 hours after I sent out my resume to development companies that I got a call from the manager of SWiM Communications. He had called me wanting me to come in for an interview. I saw this as a sign that this was meant to happen as I have never seen a turn around that quickly. After I went through this process I then found that I had the job and then needed to quit from Get Glossy.

The weeks that followed were not the best but I’m not going to go into that too much as I think that the actions of someone under great stress and panic are not fully defining of their character and don’t want to make people look bad. All in all my experience at Get Glossy was great but it came to the time to move on.

Anyway till next time…
